Community Training on Disability and Ableism

November 16, 2018 @ 1:00PM — 4:30PM

A training for people to work more effectively with people with disabilities

SDA is offering a half-day professional development opportunity for staff, board members, and volunteers of local organizations and agencies to learn or refresh knowledge of systems that oppress people with disabilities and of disability rights. Through interactive presentations, role play, and games, this training includes disability history, cultural competency, ableism, communication skills, and more. We aim to dissect the myths of disability and independence, challenge unintentional assumptions and explore our own experiences and views of disability. We hope to provoke deep conversation and create space for personal reflection, thereby giving participants the skills to better serve your communities.
